A great way to prepare for the new year, “An Evening of Viennese Classics”, will brighten anyone’s holiday.  This evening of fabulous chamber music includes works by the four masters of Viennese Classicism: Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert.  We will perform trios for piano and strings as well as Schubert’s gorgeous Sonata in A Major for violin and piano featuring rising star (and Seattle native) Rachell Wong.  Please click on Vienna to give the “An Evening of Viennese Classics” concert on Thursday, Dec 28, 2017.

On Sunday, February 18, 2018, BS&F presents “Handel: From the War of Love”.  Handel’s chamber cantatas for bass voice are full of youthful passion, gorgeous melodies, and sometimes even a bit of humor. We are delighted to present the Seattle debut of bass-baritone Ian Pomerantz in two of these wonderful works, including Dalla guerra amorosa (“From the war of love”), along with Italian Baroque instrumental works featuring violinists Andrew Fouts and Ingrid Matthews, cellist Elisabeth Reed, and harpsichordist Byron Schenkman.  Please click on Handel to give the Handel: From the War of Love concert on Sunday, Feb 18, 2018.

“Beethoven: Kreutzer and Pathétique Sonatas.”  Seattle Symphony violinist Mikhail Shmidt and pianist Byron Schenkman join together for the first time for this all-Beethoven recital including two of Beethoven’s most celebrated sonatas plus the ebullient Sonata in G Major, op. 30, no. 3.  Please click on Beethoven to give the Beethoven: Kreutzer and Pathétique Sonatas concert on March 18, 2018.

We close our season with a festive evening of virtuoso sonatas and concertos for baroque winds, strings, and harpsichord.  “Vivaldi and the High Baroque” includes works by Vivaldi’s “Goldfinch” Concerto and sonatas for flute, oboe, and violin.  Also included are works by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, Anna Bon, and George Frideric Handel.  Please click on Vivaldi to give the Vivaldi and the High Baroque concert on April 22, 2018.

Wishing you a warm holiday season filled with music, friends, and family.

Newly Approved for 501(c)(3) status!

Byron Schenkman & Friends is thrilled to announce that after much work and seemingly interminable waiting we have received our determination letter from the IRS meaning that we are a separate 501(c)(3) organization.  This means that BS&F can accept donations directly and that they are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Please help us celebrate by making a gift to BS&F.  This is the first time that gifts will come straight to BS&F with no intervening organization or agent.  You may make a donation here.

At that same link you can also buy the CD The Art of the Harpsichord if you want to give it as a gift this holiday season.  This first release on the Byron Schenkman & Friends label is a special recording on eight antique harpsichords from the National Music Museum with beautiful illustrations accompanying three centuries of harpsichord music.

We hope that you will join in our excitement over this new stage in the life of BS&F!

Great press for Handel & Haydn Harpsichord Concertos!

We got wonderful write ups for our concerts last weekend in Seattle Weekly, the Times Colonist (Victoria, BC), and the Seattle Times!

Here are some highlights from the Seattle Times review:

“Ingrid Matthews and Laurel Wells, Baroque violin; Jason Fisher, Baroque viola; and Nathan Whittaker, Baroque cello, are steeped in early music performance and played with grace and style.”

“A superb harpsichordist… Schenkman is a master.”
